中国摄影家协会成立于1956年12月，是新中国历史上第一个全国性摄影组织，是中国共产党领导的、由全国各民族摄影家组成的专业性人民团体，是中国文学艺术界联合会团体会员，是党和政府联系摄影界的桥梁和纽带，是繁荣中国摄影事业、建设社会主义先进文化的重要力量。

从对着拍中见证时代，在对着比中认识变化，中国人的衣食住行工商学乐医随着时代都在发生天翻地覆的变化，其中有经济发展的直接表现，亦有政策演变的客观因果。该书为《影像见证中国：中外摄影对着拍》的全英文版。全书除对照展示40对改革开放之初前后的照片和近年的呼应影像外，还通过涉及衣、食、住、行、通讯、教育、商业贸易、居民娱乐等显示改革开放巨大成就的历史回顾性文字展示了中国特色社会主义道路的伟大成功。阅读此书，可从一个个侧面看到改革开放时代的中华人民共和国历史。

“中外摄影对着拍”是2018年中国摄影家协会为庆祝中国改革开放40 年而精心策划的主题摄影活动。活动遴选了5 位国际知名外国摄影家(马克·吕布、伊芙·阿诺德、阿德里亚诺·马达罗、阎雷、布鲁诺·巴贝)的40 幅拍摄于中国改革开放之初前后的照片，并以此为蓝本邀约中国摄影师对照拍摄中国同地点、同场景或者同行业甚至同一群人物的当下影像，旨在以生动的影像语言、鲜明的对照方式展现中国改革开放40 年来所取得的翻天覆地的变化，彰显摄影的独特魅力。本书即为活动成果之一。
该书在既有活动及展览成果基础上，特约专家围绕40 对作品从图片反映的行业、场景等背景信息切入，展开图文并茂的深入解读，同时特别将业内过往对5 位外国摄影家的访谈或评论文字并相关学术探讨穿插其间，将“对着拍”的时代性、学术性、专业性和客观性进行到底。而英文版的此书则将进一步扩大“对着拍”活动和品牌尤其是改革开放成就的世界影响力。
