本书是应用民族音乐学方向的英文文集。2018年中央音乐学院组织召开了国际传统音乐学会“应用民族音乐学研究分会第六届国际会议”,当时有来自四十多个国家的学者参加了会议。本书是从所参加会议者的报告中选择出的文章,另外邀请美国著名学者安东尼-西格为本书写了序言。这些文章涉及到了世界不同国家有关非物质文化遗产保护问题,传统音乐的教育问题,应用民族音乐学的理论与方法问题等。这些文章来自世界各国的有名民族音乐学家,具有广泛的影响力。
